The Contents panel

The Contents panel is a live outline of your chapters and headings that you can use to jump anywhere in the manuscript.

1. To open Contents, choose View ▸ Contents, press Ctrl+Shift+N / ⌘⇧N, or click its edge tab on the left, below the Productivity tab.
2. Double-click any chapter or heading to scroll there and place the cursor. A single click only selects the row, which is how you pick a chapter to reorder.

Press Esc, click outside the panel, or press the shortcut again to close it.

The panel also holds an Outline row at the top and a note button on each chapter row. See Planning notes. In Review Mode the same panel is called Navigation and is for jumping around only, with no notes or reordering. See The Navigation panel.
