Toolbar behavior

Choose whether the toolbar stays put or slides away while you write.

In Draft Mode, choose View ▸ Toolbar to open the Toolbar dialog. Each change takes effect right away; click Done when you're done.

  • Always visible (the default): the toolbar stays on screen.
  • Retreating: the toolbar slides away while you write. Move the pointer to the top of the window to bring it back.

When you choose Retreating, the options under Retreat decide when it goes, and the switches under Bring back decide what brings it back:

  • When the pointer leaves it: the toolbar hides a moment after the pointer leaves it.
  • After typing (the default): the toolbar hides once you've typed the number of words you set, from 1 to 99. It starts at 5.
  • When text is selected (under Bring back): the toolbar stays up while text is selected.
  • Hint at the top edge (under Bring back): a soft glow at the top of the window when you move the pointer up toward the hidden toolbar.
Note

These settings are remembered on this computer. They apply to Draft Mode only; in Review Mode the toolbar is always visible.
