Password protection

Encrypt a document on disk so only someone with the password can open it.

1. Choose File ▸ Protect Document (in Draft or Review).
2. Type the password in Password and again in Confirm password, then click Set password. If the document is already saved, GLASS rewrites the file encrypted right away: prose, versions, comments, notes, and metadata. The .glass.bak backup beside it is replaced at the same time, so no unprotected copy is left behind. A document you haven't saved yet is encrypted when you first save it.

Opening a protected file asks for the password. You can try again as many times as you need. While a protected document is open, a small lock icon appears beside its name at the top of the window, and File ▸ Protect Document shows a check mark. To change or remove the password, click the lock or choose File ▸ Protect Document, pick Change password (enter the new password in New password and Confirm password) or Remove protection, then click the button of the same name. Removing protection asks you to confirm. Autosave's recovery copy of a protected document is encrypted too.
