Reorder chapters & interludes

Move a whole chapter (its heading, prose, notes, and lists) to a new place, and let GLASS renumber.

Open the Contents panel (View ▸ Contents, or Ctrl+Shift+N / ⌘⇧N).
Drag a chapter row to a new slot and release; an emerald insertion line shows where it will land. Or click a chapter row to select it and press Alt+↑ / ⌥↑ to move it up or Alt+↓ / ⌥↓ to move it down. A hint at the bottom of the panel names the chapter that will move.

Chapter badges, footnote numbers, and any hand-typed chapter numbers renumber to match. The whole move is a single undo step. Reordering works in Draft Mode, once the document has at least two chapters.

Note

Select the Unnumbered checkbox in a chapter's heading editor (double-click the heading to open it) to make it an interlude or epilogue. It's still a real chapter: it starts on a new page, and footnote and endnote numbers start over at 1. But it's skipped by the number sequence, so the chapters around it count past it.
