Guide/Part Two · Write
Paragraph formatting
Alignment, line spacing, and indents all live per paragraph and carry forward as you write.
Alignment
Use the toolbar's alignment buttons, or the shortcuts: Align left Ctrl+L / ⌘L, Align center Ctrl+E / ⌘E, Align right Ctrl+R / ⌘R, and Justify Ctrl+J / ⌘J.
Spacing & indents
- Put the cursor in a paragraph (or select several).
- Choose Format ▸ Spacing and Indents to open the Spacing and indents dialog.
- Under Spacing, choose a Line spacing of Single, 1.15, 1.5, or Double, and set Space before and Space after in points. Under Indentation, choose a First line style (Indent, Hanging, or None) and its Amount, and set the Left and Right indents.
- Click Apply.
You can also press Tab in a paragraph (outside a list) to give it a first-line indent, and Shift+Tab to remove it.
Note
Spacing and indents apply only to the paragraphs you selected and to new paragraphs after them, never retroactively.
