Guide/Part Three · Structure a manuscript

Footnotes & endnotes

Drop a numbered note at a point in the text; write its content in a floating editor. Footnotes sit at the page foot, endnotes gather at the end of the document.

  1. Place the cursor where the reference should go.
  2. Choose Insert ▸ Footnote or Insert ▸ Endnote. A superscript number appears and an editor opens next to it.
  3. Type the note. Click back into the page when you're done.
Note

Numbering is chapter-aware: notes reset at each chapter, and endnotes group by chapter on their own pages at the end.
