Find and replace
Search the document and, if you like, replace as you go.
- Choose Edit ▸ Find (Ctrl+F / ⌘F) to find, or press Ctrl+H / ⌥⌘F to find and replace. The panel opens top-right, and you can drag it by its top edge. Text you've selected within one paragraph pre-fills the search.
- Type your query. Matches highlight on the page and the panel shows the count, such as 3 of 47. Press Enter for the next match, Shift+Enter / ⇧Enter for the previous one.
- Check Match case or Whole words to narrow results.
- For replace, click the arrow at the left of the search box (Show replace) if the Replace with field isn't showing. Enter the new text and click Replace for the current match or Replace all for every match.
Press Esc to close Find from anywhere. A match can't run across two paragraphs.
In Review Mode, Replace and Replace all work through the active Edit Pass: each replacement arrives as a suggestion, the original struck through and the new text beside it, for the owner to accept or reject. A single Undo takes back a whole Replace all, and chapter headings are left alone. When Review can't take edits (an editor with no Edit Pass open, View as If Accepted, or a read-only document), the buttons are grayed and the panel says why.
